If you asked us what our favourite part of photographing weddings is, we'd have to say its the sense of adventure when shooting somewhere new. Mark and Sheila's unique winter wedding was definitely something we had never ever experienced before.
This was our first time shooting at Desert Blume Golf and Country Club for a wedding. The light through the window facing the golf course is breath taking. Not to mention the fact that this couple had planned a sunset wedding outside on the patio of the club house. This was our first sunset wedding and our first outdoor winter ceremony.
Unfortunately, it was just a few days after Christmas and FREEZING cold! The sun had set so quickly that by the time the ceremony began the sun was all but gone, so now we were shooting in the pitch black of winter night. The guests had huddled around the gas lamps to keep warm and the poor bridesmaids were shivering terribly in their short spring dresses. Our fingers holding our cameras went numb before the ceremony had ended. The guests and wedding party could not get inside the club house fast enough!
Everyone was more than happy to shoot portraits indoors, and luckily the venue was decorated perfectly to match the wedding party in stunning black and gold. Together the images turned out more incredible than we could imagine!
In terms of new experiences, we are not sure we would ever want to shoot a winter wedding outdoors again. It was nearly debilitatingly cold! However, there were so many great highlights than we would love to experience again.
