Wedding Photography FAQ's

Q: How would you describe your wedding photography style?

A: We would describe our personal style to be modern and a bit whimsical. We love to create romantic images that are illustrative and tell the story of your wedding day! We spend the majority of the day focused on being a wedding photojournalist capturing the special moments as they happen as discretely as possible. When it comes to the wedding portraits, we provide guidance for posing so you're comfortable in front of the camera and may incorporate lighting techniques to create the best possible images.

Q: I would like you to shoot my wedding, how do I start the process?

A: You can reach us by filling out the contact form along with your wedding date and location. If possible, we would like to meet you in person, so we can get to know each other and give you a chance to ask us any questions you may have. Once you’ve chosen us as your wedding photographer, arrangements will be made to place a deposit with us to hold your wedding date. After that, you can check “find a photographer” off your wedding to-do list!

Q: How much do I need for deposit?

A: We require a 30% non-refundable deposit to hold your date and book our wedding photographer services. The remaining balance is due by the day of the wedding.

Q: How far should we book in advance?

A: We recommend booking no less than 6 months in advance to ensure your wedding date is available, but many of our summer dates are filled 12 months prior to the wedding date.

Q: Do you shoot with an assistant/2nd photographer?

A: Some packages include an assistant/2nd photographer, which really helps to ensure that between the two of us, we catch more of the special moments from your wedding day.

Q: Where are you based?

A: We are based in Medicine Hat, but we love to travel!

Q: Where are you available for travel or destination weddings?

A: We are always looking for a new adventure, so no matter where you are or plan to get married, just let us know where and we’ll figure out the best way to get out to you.

Q: Will you be staying for dinner?

A: As we will be by your side for the better part of the day, we would appreciate to be included in any meal arrangements.  It is also best to designate a spot for us close to the head table in amongst the guests so we can be ready to jump up and capture an unexpected moment.  If this is not possible however, being kept as close to the “action” as possible is always appreciated.

Q: How much time should I set aside for the wedding portraits?

A: We recommend between 2 to 3 hours to capture the family portraits, wedding party, and portraits of you as a couple, of course! If you have a large family and would like portraits incorporating several different family groupings, or if you want to trek to different locations with your wedding party, a longer amount of time should be set aside. A longer period of time will also create a more laid-back atmosphere no matter how many people you have, and allow you to not feel rushed or venture to fun and unique locations.

Q: When should we do the wedding portraits?

A: This is mostly up to you, but they are usually done immediately following the ceremony. Portraits may also be taken before or after the ceremony (or a bit of both) to help ease time constraints and impatient guests. Shooting after the ceremony, depending on the time, could allow you to take advantage of the setting sun and its softer light.

Q: How many photos will I receive?

A: Each wedding varies depending on the hours of coverage, but we do not limit the number images you will receive. All of the best images from your wedding will be provided in high resolution on a USB flash drive.

Q: When will I get to see all of my wedding photos?

A: Your photos will generally be ready within 8 - 12 weeks following the wedding. We go through a careful process of choosing the best images from the day.

Q: Do you edit all of the photos?

A: We process each of your photos with individual attention ensuring proper exposure and white balance. Basic retouching will be applied to the wedding portraits, but we maintain a natural approach. Our motto is "if its something that's not typically there, we will try to remove it" (ie. pimples, bruises, etc).

Q: Do you offer albums or prints?

A: Most of our wedding packages include a wedding album, but we also offer a selection of print products including parent albums, as well as canvas or aluminum prints. Please contact us for our current print and album pricing.

Q: Who chooses the photographs in the album?

A: Shortly after you have received your photos, you will receive a draft of your wedding album that we mindfully create for you with the images from your special day just to give you an idea of how your album will/could look. You will then have a chance to make changes such as add, remove or exchange images. You are not limited to the number of images you can include in your album, but you have the option to add more pages to your album, so you don't have to sacrifice the size to include more.

Q: Will you post the photographs online?

A: We generally post a sneak peek on to our Facebook page or other social media sites shortly after your wedding so you have something to share with your friends and family while you wait for the rest of your images. We may also post highlights from your wedding on our blog with even more images for your friends and family to see!

Q: When should we do our engagement session?

A: We encourage you to do your engagement session as soon as possible. The latest we suggest is at least eight weeks prior to the wedding date due to the time necessary for post processing and to order print products such as engagement guestbooks or save-the-date-cards.
